PRISM Time Series Data



PRISM time series datasets are available for daily data (1981-present), monthly data (1895-present), and annual data (1895-present). These datasets use all of the station networks and data sources ingested by the PRISM Group (version AN, for "all networks"), not just those that have existed for long periods of time.

PRISM time series datasets are re-modeled multiple times within a rolling 6-month window (7 times for monthly data, 8 times for daily data) and are considered stable after 6 months. See our PRISM Datasets document for more information, and our calendar of dataset updates for exact timing. We also provide web services and an FTP repository that can help automate the fetching and updating of PRISM datasets to the latest versions.

Note that individual grids contain inhomogeneities due to station equipment and location changes, stations openings and closings, and varying observation times. Please review the data usage conditions and disclaimers in our terms of use.

How Data Stability Is Determined




Data stability values are a rating system that reflects how likely it is that the underlying data - and hence the analyses - will be updated by future additions and quality control (QC) procedures. The timing varies slightly among daily, monthly, and annual time series data products, as shown below.

Time Series	Stability Categories and Descriptions
Daily
Preliminary	Fewer than 5 days have elapsed. Minimal station data have been received, and expert QC has not been performed.
Certain to change	More than 5 days have elapsed. Additional station data have been received, but expert QC has not yet been performed (occurs around the 15th day of each month).
Likely to change	Major QC has been performed, but additional weather station data are still expected.
Unlikely to change	Major QC has been performed, and weather station data are largely complete.

Monthly
Preliminary	Fewer than 15 days have elapsed. Expert QC has not yet been performed.
Likely to change	Major QC has been performed, but additional weather station data are still expected.
Unlikely to change	Major QC has been performed, and weather station data are largely complete.

Annual
Likely to change	Major QC has been performed, but additional weather station data are still expected.
