ITU is committed to advancing gender equality by leveraging the power of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to empower everyone, regardless of gender. Through gender mainstreaming, ITU works to embed equality across programmes, initiatives, and decision-making processes. From encouraging girls in STEM to promoting inclusive digital development, ITU works to create a more equitable and connected world.












ITU160 Gender Champions
The  ITU160  Gender Champions initiative, with the support from the Government of Canada, brings together a diverse group of young women driving gender equality in digital transformation. As part of ITU’s 160th anniversary celebrations, the selected Champions took part in the WSIS+20 High-Level Event and the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, contributing their voices and expertise to global digital policy conversations. EQUALS
Launched in​ 2016 by ITU and four founding partners, EQUALS Global Partnership is a multi-stakeholder initiative advancing digital gender equality through awareness, collaboration, and policy action. This year, EQUALS reaffirmed its commitment to equip millions of women and girls with digital skills, resources, and opportunities by 2035.  Learn more






Girls in ICT
International Girls in ICT is an ITU initiative to empower and encourage girls and young women to consider ICT studies and careers. Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of every April, the event provides opportunities for girls and young women worldwide to experience ICTs and become inspired by technology.  Learn more






Women in Cyber
The Women in Cyber programme addresses cultural and systemic barriers hindering women’s participation ​in cybersecurity. The programme aims to empower women, foster community, provide guidance, and promote senior-junior solidarity among women in cybersecurity. Participants credit the programme with enhancing their skills and knowledge, offering insights into the sector, diverse career paths, personal branding, and boosting confidence as females in cybersecurity.  Learn more






ITU Network of Women (NoW)
The ITU Network of Women (NoW) initiatives aim at increasing women’s representation and leadership across ITU sectors by connecting delegates, experts, and decision-makers working to close the gender digital divide. Learn more
