The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) is a prominent university in China and enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. It was established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1958 in Beijing, as a strategic action by the Chinese government, to meet China’s science and technology needs and increases the country’s international competitiveness. CAS integrated its resources with USTC, with the aim of educating top talent in cutting-edge, interdisciplinary science and technology. The establishment of USTC was hailed as “a great event in the history of education and science of China”. In 1970, USTC moved to its current location in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province.

Undergraduate Programs
USTC offers 38 undergraduate programs in 18 disciplines as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Life Sciences, Engineering Science, Electronic Information, Computer Science, Geophysics, Environmental Science and Engineering, Management Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Atmospheric Science, Planetary Science, Quantum Information Science, Space Science and Technology, and Nuclear Engineering.

The undergraduate programs in USTC are 4-year full-time study and delivered in Chinese. Bachelor's degree and graduation certificate will be awarded if the students finish all the required course work and pass the thesis defense.

Postgraduate Programs
USTC offers 78 master's programs and 89 doctoral programs in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Geophysics, Environmental Science and Engineering, etc. Among these, nearly all the doctoral programs can be taught in English and some master's programs can be taught in English. By completing the required credits, finishing the thesis/dissertation, and passing the thesis/dissertation defense, students will obtain the graduation certificate, and master's/doctoral degree after fulfilling the degree requirement. Generally in USTC, students pursuing master's degree may need 2-3 years, while doctoral students need 3-4 years to finish their degree requirements.

Programs in Suzhou
The Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (Hereinafter referred to as “SIAR”), jointly established by the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the Suzhou Municipal Government, is a premier research and educational institution dedicated to advancing emerging industries. It aims to create a world-class platform for research and talent development with distinctive strengths that support both local industrial transformation and USTC's “Double First-Class” initiative.

Since its founding, the SIAR has focused on strategic development in academic disciplines, faculty recruitment, and graduate training. In 2007 and 2011, USTC partnered with the Suzhou government to establish the School of Software Engineering and the School of Nano Science and Technology within the Institute, with more than 7,000 graduates trained to date. Over the next five years, the Institute plans to bring in 400 top-tier faculty members and researchers, with initial focus areas including Biomedical Engineering, Advanced Materials, Data Intelligence, and Business Management to meet the growing demands of Suzhou and the Yangtze River Delta region. The Institute is also actively expanding partnerships with leading international universities and research institutions.

Non-degree

Research Internship Program
The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) research internship program provides the opportunity for graduate students or 3rd/4th year undergraduate students to participate in research projects to gain valuable experience on a variety of cutting-edge research at USTC.
