Hopefully this is a really simple question for someone out there.

Where is the link in MyGov/ATO to lodge the activity statement?

I registered for GST on 17 June as my total sales on eBay exceeded $75k. I called the ATO and did it over the phone as online sign up didn't work. I received the letter confirmation.

The due date for BAS lodgings is 28 July. I visited the ATO page through MyGov, clicked Tax -> Lodgments -> Activity statements, but the only link I see is this:

Apr 2026 – Jun 2026 Quarterly PAYG instalment notice Due: 25/08/2026Prepare

There is meant to be a link for lodging the BAS, but it's not available to me.

I checked my tax registrations and indeed, I am signed up for GST.

Goods & Services Tax
Quarterly
17/06/2026

Do I need to wait for the ATO to generate a link for me? Does it take a full quarter? Do I need to call the ATO on Monday and find out why I can't lodge a BAS?

You registered too late for a BAS to be generated.
Next quarter you lodge from your start date to 30/9.

When I was on the phones many years ago, if someone registered for GST after the default BAS generation date we had to manually generate one. It's possible that the person on the phone forgot to do it – it's easy if you're being slammed with calls. What you are seeing is the Instalment Activity Statement. That needs to be terminated, and a new BAS issued that includes GST and your PAYGI. At least that WAS the process – they use the same BAS system now that they did then so presumably it's a similar situation.

If you call them and let them know the situation they should be able to fix it. Make your call first thing in the morning so you don't get stuck in the queue.

Thank you for the replies. I'll try to call the ATO tomorrow, although it's a little difficult during work hours.

I can understand the BAS not being created because I registered late, but I also noticed another curious anomaly. My PAYG date was 28 July. I even wrote it in my calendar over a month ago. But now it's 28 August. I didn't request a delay. I'm not complaining as it means I keep the money in my mortgage longer. Great for me. But it seems strange to see a month delay.

It can be done on paper or online. Online seems to be the most convenient method, if it's available.

You should be able to see a history of your past lodgments, as well as make new ones through MyGov.

My problem is the online option doesn't exist. I'll try to find out why tomorrow.

If I'm reading it correctly, the MyGov linked to ATO route is for individuals and sole traders.

For other business types you use ATO's Online Services for Business or SBR-enabled software:

Well that's not helpful. I called the ATO and spent three minutes navigating their phone menu, only to be told by the automated voice that they're experiencing a peak volume of calls. Good bye.

It just hung up. No option for a call back.

So, what now?

EDIT: I believe I cannot even download the BAS form to fill out. Only a sample is available online that cannot be lodged.

When people advise you to call the ATO at 8 am, they really do mean to call them at 8 am. As in, dial every number except the last, and then dial the last digit as the clock strikes.

I am being serious here.

I am calling 13 28 66, and not as early as I should have. Obviously today and tomorrow are peak call volume days.

Should have been done, but wasn't. The only thing I'm interested in is seeing if I'm going to get a fine if I don't lodge by tomorrow.

Downloading a sample as you have discovered isn't going to fix your problem.

Well, yes. I was seeing if the form was available to download like many other government forms are.

EDIT: I found this statement in the guide on how to lodge a BAS. As I haven't received a form or email from the ATO then it's safe to assume I don't have to file by tomorrow.

The due date for lodging and paying is displayed on your BAS. Lodge and pay in full and on time to avoid penalties and interest charges. Contact us as soon as possible if you are finding it hard to lodge and pay on time.

Expected behaviour then. Those will be in the ATO’s Online Services for Business. No idea why they had to have that separate and why those HAVE to have an ABN to access this portal (it’s not just for BAS reporting), but it’s incredibly annoying.

Should the OP be looking via the "Business Portal" rather than MyGov for his BAS return? On the Business Portal I can see our BAS stuff and my personal tax return but not partners personal tax return or my IAS which I see via MyGov.
