With iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 officially out in the wild, its time to focus on next best iteration the iOS 19.

Apple reported began officially working on iOS 19 back in June 2024.

Here's hoping the whole system gets a makeover inspired by visionOS. The UI could use a breath of fresh air. It's not a dire need or anything, but I'd be thrilled to see it.

Apple might win brownie points with longterm users if they dumped annual upgrades cycle, dumped iOS 19 and instead worked on getting the bugs sorted in 18.5, 18.6, ... Their recent products are following the Microsoft and Samsung route of bloat and vapourware instead of being laser focused on productivity. The world would have better off with the iPhone 16 and Samsung S25.

Instead, I use two camera apps from the App Store:

1. Simple Cam – very easy to use and much better UI

Diverging markets it would seem between macOS and iOS. Mac users will buy Android. iPhone compatibility's not as good as it was and Apple seems to think it's more important to wow kids with Apple Intelligence and Genmoji.

Looks like my old trusty iPhone XS Max will still be shown some love in iOS19 which comes as a pleasant surprise.
It still functions perfectly (for what I need it to do) running iOS18 so hopefully it'll keep plodding on for a while yet...

I put a new battery in it a couple of months ago and it now easily lasts a day or two of moderate use, cost me around $30 for a battery brand I trust after having used them on several other devices from a couple of years ago, it's given it a new lease of life.

From my POV, Macbooks and MacOS basically have no competition and it's all about what's best with Mac. There is some iphone convenience obviously but declining iOS quality and very high cost of iPhones is making less business sense. Google is much better at AI on iPhones. Pixels are better again and easily work with Mac. Sony is much better at both sound and vision on iPhones and Mac.

I fully agree with you that a large part iOS market don't care about productivity. Pity. It's all about those green peasant bubbles.

That would be surprising. An old SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. Even the XR has less RAM at 3GB. I'd bet that Apple will cut any iPhone before the 12 at the end of year. The 12 at least had some substantial differences to the 11 series so makes sense to use that as the minimum floor for support.

I'm all in on the apple ecosystem (iPad, Macbook, phone, watch, AirPods) but planning to dump my 16 pro and ultra 2 for the next s26/watch ultra. With everything being cloud now pretty easy to shift from iCloud to google one.

More like window dressing it to look innovated .
They can change icons make it look smoother change animations but all will be for nothing when system if still buggy
They really must think by doing these changes people will be like oooo pretty shape icons ...wow animations have changed ...oooooo wait keyboard still crap Siri still dumb and I bet with screen size as they are no multi window tasking on phone .
