The house I've moved to is a share house with the other occupant's existing provider (Telstra) using port 1.

DODO are claiming they can't move my service to the new place as they can't do multi port connections and can only use the primary port. Painful coming from 750mbps. We've been discussing dropping one provider and sharing the cost of a single connection. They're old folks that don't like mobiles and still have a landline number with Telstra they don't want to give up. I have 4 ancient email addresses with Dodo I'd like to keep until they shut down the server for good. We looked into porting their number to Crazytel as an option if we went with Dodo internet. That would require buying new compatible handsets which isn't a problem. The savings from dropping Telstra would cover that pretty quick.

You have NBN FTTP so you will have a reliable connection and fast speeds anyway.
Reliable connection and speed wasn't always good like now. Going back 12 years (had ADSL with Dodo for the first 2 years here, and 8 years in my previous house) it was a big issue and why I still appreciate what I had.

When the NBN was shiny and new and 100/40 was about the best you could get neighbours with other providers reported regular speed drops in peak times and multiple outages every week. Amazingly Dodo managed to get something right with me. I've run FTP and IRC file servers since 1998 and have long logs tracking offline times and send/recieve speeds. Never had any complaints about the quality of the NBN service. ADSL was a different story. The day the copper went was a very good day.

pgdownload writes...

Can you just select "Move Address" online and have it happen automatically?

That's what I did, assuming they would connect to the next available port.

Got an email from them after 2 weeks waiting asking for some details of proof of residency as there was an active connection here already. When I called I got the story about not being able to do multi connections. Called the NBN to verify and they said nope not a thing, no reason they can't. Called Dodo back and got the same story from another drone, even after telling them what the NBN guy said. No explaination why it's not possible.

Unless you're particularly wedded to Dodo

See above. Dumb reason I know. I have got a daily paid email service with Tuta, but I like my 20+ year old historic email addresses.

User #147374814 posts

<a RSPs just blamed the NBN while cutting costs not paying for sufficient bandwidth to handle their customers needs. AFAIK the only RSP that didn't was Aussie Broadband. Dodo would have definitely been front and centre scamming its customers but I'm glad it worked out for you, possibly you lived in an area with slow take up (i.e. not much congestion).

However, the past is besides the point. All RSPs now run reliably at 95%+ of advertised speed (esp. on FTTP) so no need to stick with Dodo

Dumb reason I know. But I like my 20+ year old historic email addresses.

Not dumb at all. ISPs offered these emails all free with the express understanding that customers using them would be many more times unlikely to be able to leave once they got dependant on them. Its very easy to transfer over to tuta (or gmail) over the coming months. I would be doing that.

User #9016662867 posts

MrWonder
Sack Justin Longmuir

Whirlpool Forums Addict

https://whrl.pl/RgT0qf
herring|anchor|mark

Reply to this post

posted 2026-Feb-17, 8:55 am

replyherringmarkurl

https://whrl.pl/RgT0qf
posted 2026-Feb-17, 8:55 am

Many mainstream legacy carriers only connect via churning the primary port for simplicity

You need to ask for an additional connection (legacy language) not “use the free port “

User #93665717 posts

MisakaMikoto

I'm new here, please be nice

https://whrl.pl/RgT03b
herring|anchor|mark

Reply to this post

posted 2026-Feb-17, 10:13 pm

replyherringmarkurl

https://whrl.pl/RgT03b
posted 2026-Feb-17, 10:13 pm

pretty sure you can use uni-d 2 as long as the speed you ordered is less then the available speed after uni-d 1,
probably just lack of training for their customer support team, you can try use their portal or called them to escalate it to their higher teams to check,
otherwise just change provider yeah.

User #701120140 posts

Ruprecht
Meh

Participant

https://whrl.pl/RgT5ek
herring|anchor|mark

Reply to this post

posted 2026-Feb-23, 9:41 pm

replyherringmarkurl

https://whrl.pl/RgT5ek
posted 2026-Feb-23, 9:41 pm

O.P.

Update for those following the saga.

The 2nd support worker I spoke to on the phone on 16th Feb talked to her supervisor's boss after my call. This is the type of employee that's kept me a loyal customer. She told the big boss the story and he showed her how to set up a connection on another port. She called me back the next day and after a 5 minute phone call it was done. Unexpected action from someone probably not paid anywhere near enough for the job they do.

All working fine till now so I phoned today to get a static IP for my file servers. Sad I have to pay $5 a month now as it was included in the old plan. Got a new IP assigned a few hours later. Currently no internet connection. Dodo claim that NBN emailed them earlier about a network issue so I'm waiting for someone to fix whatever's wrong.

Funny thing with the Telstra service here. Turns out it's a 500/40 connection. Found out by accident when testing a HP ProDesk 600 G5 Mini PC I was given from my son's work cleaning out their office. All the other WiFi devices, including my fairly old PC, are using 2.4GHz band so I assumed only 50mbps from speed tests. There's one PC here with an ethernet connection through a powerline adapter that I never thought to use for a test.

User #89879417 posts

ThePirateNerd

I'm new here, please be nice

https://whrl.pl/RgT6JW
herring|anchor|mark

Reply to this post

posted 2026-Feb-25, 11:52 pm

replyherringmarkurl

https://whrl.pl/RgT6JW
posted 2026-Feb-25, 11:52 pm

Ruprecht writes...

I have 4 ancient email addresses with Dodo I'd like to keep until they shut down the server for good.

Looks like Dodo are stopping web hosting and email services as of 1st March 2026.

User #980465152 posts

thesideshowbob
support good software with $$

Whirlpool Forums Addict

https://whrl.pl/RgT7I0
herring|anchor|mark

Reply to this post

posted 2026-Feb-27, 10:30 am

replyherringmarkurl

https://whrl.pl/RgT7I0
posted 2026-Feb-27, 10:30 am

Ruprecht writes...

DODO are claiming

how many times have you rung.

User #701120140 posts

Ruprecht
Meh

Participant

https://whrl.pl/RgT7Xo
herring|anchor|mark

Reply to this post

posted 2026-Feb-27, 2:35 pm

replyherringmarkurl

https://whrl.pl/RgT7Xo
posted 2026-Feb-27, 2:35 pm

O.P.

The final boss has been beat. Called again after no network connection for a few days to find the "NBN outage" was just the nitwit converting my service to a static IP not clicking the PPPoE box. Could have called sooner but wasn't really an issue at the time as the borrowed internet was here to use and I had things to do.

Once again a very helpful worker who knew what they were doing fixed it in a minute. As a whole I'm still happy enough with the company to remain a customer. Now I can enjoy the weekend using my own service. The torrents will flow and various shows I've been missing will be absorbed like sweet water on a dry sponge.

thesideshowbob writes...

how many times have you rung.
I didn't read the entire thread including a followup comment by OP and posted someting pointless.

Enough times to get the problem sorted.

Archive VersionMark as readGo to watched threads

Industry news
Submit news

Previous articles

Discussion forum
Search

Popular topics

Newest topics

Community Rules

Moderation FAQ

Whirlpool FAQ

Rep code of conduct

Knowledge base
Index

Local time10:18 AM AEST1 August 2026Membership941,377 registered members5,122 visited in past 24 hrs320 members online now924 guests visiting nowBig numbers3,937,541 threads76,601,201 posts4,990 wiki topics2,272 modems & routers86,017 features filled

ComputersDesktopsLaptopsPeripheralsWindowsAppleLinux/BSDTechnologyModems/RoutersNetworkingTelephonyServers/HostingWeb developmentProgrammingServer managementISPsChoosing an ISPBroadbandNBNTelstra BroadbandOptus BroadbandAussie BroadbandTPG GroupSuperloopVocus GroupExetelOther ISPsMobileMobile carriersWireless ISPsiPhoneAndroid phonesAndroid tabletsOther phonesLifeJobsEducationGraduate programsFinanceReal EstateLifestyleShoppingTravelEntertainmentHome theatreTV showsMoviesMusicGamingSportLoungesAutomotivePhotographyHomeHome techEnergyHobbies/InterestsGadgetsOn the internetHelpWhirlpool FAQCommunity rulesModeration FAQRep code of conductPrivacy policyLegal complaintsSectionsHardware databaseKnowledge baseWhirlpool.net.au Copyright © 2026
Whirlpool.net.au

Legal

------
导航页 打开网址
</card></wml>
