Hi,

I've purchased a Samsung Q800H soundbar (yet to arrive), it doesn't support DTS with this particular model.

I don't have a Blueray library but might start building one, is the lack of DTS likely to be a problem.

Chatgpt says to purchase a Blueray player that can decode DTS or use a NVIDIA Shield TV Pro for rips.

A YouTube video stated if the soundbar detects DTS it uses Stereo sound, which Chatgpt said is false.

Any clarification appreciated.

Never seen a DVD/BluRay with a DTS stream but not an AC3 one.

Must bluray player can decode audio into a multi-channel PCM stream and output that.

No. Your soundbar will still play amazing sound from anything you try play. DTS is like icing on the cake and if you wanted to experience it then you'd have a $10K surround sound system and sub woofer.

So get your Bluray player to do the decoding. If you're ripping your discs into a library, just use the Dolby audio instead.

DTS is just one way of processing sound among many. Not having it is like being told a supermarket doesn't stock a specific brand of icecream. FWIW On a soundbar it's unlikely you'd be able to hear any difference from a stero signal. If you don't have one, adding a sub woofer would provide much more audio pay off later on.

So I'd say enjoy your current amazing av setup and you can always upgrade your kit over the next 5 – 10 years if you really get into high end sound.
