Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department (IMD), was conferred the prestigious “Prana Krushna Parija Award – 2026” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to meteorology, disaster risk reduction, and public service.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, inaugurated India’s 7th Regional Meteorological Centre in Jammu on June 5, 2026. During the event, he highlighted the significant expansion of meteorological infrastructure across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh, including Doppler Weather Radars, Automatic Weather Stations, and advanced forecasting services, strengthening weather monitoring and disaster preparedness in the region.

A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development and Regional Climate Resilience Programme, Malawi, visited India Meteorological Department, New Delhi on 13 May 2026.
