It is a priority at UCAR to support the broader impacts requirements for university departments' science research proposals. One of the services that we provide is expertise and national reach in the area of science education. The UCAR Center for Science Education (SciEd) is committed to partnering with principal investigators in order to provide high quality support to meet these requirements.

This Digital Flyer describes several ways in which UCAR SciEd can partner with university departments to develop and carry out compelling and impactful science education projects that connect directly with the research objectives.

NSF Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (NSF SOARS)

NSF Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (NSF SOARS) is an undergraduate-to-graduate bridge and career pathways program designed to promote and support research, mentoring, and community in the atmospheric and Earth system sciences.

STEM Career Connections

An Innovative career readiness model and toolkit for leveraging community partnership to increase interest in STEM and computing careers for middle school youth in rural, economically disadvantaged communities.

Engineering Experiences

Engaging middle school students from low-income families in engineering after school to complement STEM learning during the normal school day.

Hurricane Resilience

A high school environmental science curriculum for use in coastal locations where hurricanes are common.

Develop Instructional Materials

Our instructional designers build and test learning materials that bring your science to classrooms and informal education venues such as museums. We use research-based instructional strategies to maximize learning opportunities for audiences from all backgrounds and levels.

GLOBE Weather: an NGSS-driven Middle School Curriculum

With GLOBE Weather, middle school students explore phenomena related to weather and storms during a five-week unit to help them understand weather at local, regional, and global scales.

Project Resilience

High school students examine the environmental challenges facing communities along the Gulf of Mexico and learn about resilience planning using a resilience planning toolkit.

CMMAP

Created educational simulations, activities, and articles about clouds and climate for K-12 teachers and students.

GLOBE Data Explorations

Classroom activities that help students learn how to analyze GLOBE environmental data while also learning atmospheric science concepts and geography.

Tell Science Stories: Exhibits and Online Resources

Storytelling reveals the excitement of scientific research, discovery, and careers while building understanding of your science. We share science stories through engaging traveling, temporary, and permanent exhibits at NSF NCAR and other sites and through online educational resources that reach national and international audiences.

DUST PIRE: Exploring Atmospheric Dust

UCAR Center for Science Education collaborated with scientists from several U.S. universities, led by a team from the University of Rochester, to develop educational resources for science centers, museums, and science festivals that tell the story of atmospheric dust and how it affects Earth system variability.

Monsoon Learning Resources

Collaboration to develop monsoon science educational resources, including web-based articles, illustrations, and a data-driven visualization of global monsoon patterns.

Zika Zine

The Zika Zine is an outreach effort of the GLOBE Zika Education and Prevention Project. This informal education resource was translated into ten languages and disseminated to librarians and teachers in the GLOBE Mission Mosquito network.

Argos: Using Satellites to Learn About Animals

The Using Satellites to Learn About Animals educational resources were developed in collaboration with Argos, a system of instruments aboard satellites used to track tagged animals around the world and help understand other aspects of our planet.
