What We Do

Space security

Space is becoming more crowded, competitive and contested.

The exploration and use of outer space hold great benefits for humankind. But with rapid technological developments and the presence of new and more space actors, the space domain is becoming more crowded, competitive and contested. Since life on Earth is increasingly dependent on space systems, there are growing strategic risks combined with an acute awareness that hostilities in outer space could have devastating consequences in space and on Earth.

UNIDIR seeks to promote common understandings around contemporary and future space security challenges and provides innovative policy solutions for a more secure, sustainable and predictable space environment. Our Space Security Portal support transparency, information sharing, confidence and capacity-building in the field of space security.
