It is the only way to use the home telephone if you have NBN. No pair to exchange now exists.

From what I have seen Home 4G/5G Broadband services from Optus, Telstra and Vodaphone do not offer VOIP in Australia.
Some of the supplied modems do have a Phone Port but the Port is not enabled as the Internet provider wants to sell you a Mobile Service as well.

The 4G/5G Internet Provider on the larger plans locks you into their supplied hardware so even if you were to purchase an equivalent model Modem from another source with the Phone Port enabled it will not work here.

First of all, this is for my wife who has difficulty with mobiles, so we use home phone, and I want to keep that simple for her. For home phone, that works via the ordinary FTTN router. If I am accessing the internet via the 5G router, how can I also access the VOIP via the FTTN one at the same time?

You don't. If you want a home phone on 5G, you'd get a seperate VOIP plan from someone like CrazyTel and then buy an ATA to connect the home phone to. This is how it's done on NBN except the ATA is built into the router.

No. Forget the FTTN line. The ATA connects to the 5G router and provides the home phone service over the internet. It has nothing to do with FTTN.

No it doesn't include the service. But you can run a telephone service over a 5G connection (if you provide your own hardware and plan).

I just read the WhistleOut article on this product, saying that anyone in the Voda 5G footprint can sign up.

I go to the TPG website, enter 2 addresses that are definitely in the footprint according to Voda site, and TPG says it's not available. Ugh.

You do not want 5G if you have FTTB. Trust me.

5G is great for those on FTTN but hardcore gamers will still hate the increase in ping – to around 18-25ms. FTTN is around 10-15ms (so actually not that much higher and most people won't notice the difference). FTTB/FTTH is 1-2ms, but definitely less than 5.

You will also get nowhere near your 40mbps upload on 5G unless you are close by to a tower (under 1km) or have invested in rooftop external antennas pointing at the tower. If you are very close to a tower, under 500 metres, and the tower has been upgraded to the latest antennas and software (not all of them have) then you can see uploads upwards of 80mbps.

So it's hit and miss with 5G but with FTTB you know exactly what you are getting and you are virtually guaranteed to get it 24/7.

TPG 5G is not officially available in my area, but I'm using a mobile sim in a pocket 5G router (Telstra 5G WiFi Pro) and I'm considering upgrading to a "CPE" (home) router for better speeds from the bigger antennas.

Anyone knows if there are any Pros/Cons of going to TPG 5G over Vodafone 5G ?
There is a marginal difference in price $79.99 versus $85. Wondering about the backend and whether there would be any difference in speed or not.

Also, is anyone on the TPG plan yet? Can you post your speedtests please ?

I have 5G available in my area. Optus's website shows the service is available. However, TPG's website doesn't show the availability.

Edit: TPG is on Vodafone's network. I missed that.

That's correct Vodafone in Australia is actually a sub brand of TPG, the TPG group own quite a few different brand names now.
Currently I'm tossing up between Optus, TPG and Vodafone for a 5G home service as there is no NBN available in the street I'm moving to and the only wired option is Telstra Velocity which is not great from everything I've heard.
Optus and Vodafone share a tower that's around 400 metres from the house so 5G service is strong for both.

I don't think you can do too badly with either.

I've just come onboard with TPG 5G and speeds are relatively good. I've got line of sight blocked by a building but I can still achieve little less than 400mbps down.
only 13 – 20 mbps up, but that seems fairly standard.
Not sure how consistent the speeds will be, I think I may set up a raspberry pi to log speeds every few minutes.

My house is on the corner. NBN can be connected from either street. Landline phone/Internet from the front, electricity is connected is from the back on another street. For 3 years no Internet provider decided from which street to install Internet connection to the premises. All their databases show NBN is available at my address. In fact, it is not. I gave up calling ISP and installed Wireless antenna from Uniti Wireless paying $68.50 for 50mbps/10mbps unlimited.

Ok, no dice here in Ashfield, no Optus or Vodafone 5G, only Telstra, but those clowns don't do home 5G internet for some reason, and when they do it will not be value for money.
