Overview

The 2024 Proton S70 Premium X is a Class C vehicle, priced at RM 94,800, assembled in Tanjung Malim in CKD form.

Power System

Equipped with a 1.5L three-cylinder turbocharged multi-point injection (MPI) engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT), it can output a power of 150 PS and 226 N·m of torque, with an acceleration time from 0-100 Km/h in 9.0 seconds (official claim).

Fuel Consumption

The combined fuel consumption is 9.56 liters/100 kilometers (which means 10.45 kilometers/liter).

Interior Configuration

The Proton S70 Premium X comes with a dedicated panoramic sunroof, though its practicality may be limited. The cabin is spacious, with comfortable seats that offer good support. The trunk capacity is 500 liters, which can be expanded by folding the rear seats. The materials used in the interior include soft-touch surfaces on the upper part of the dashboard, while other contact points are mostly plastic. Ergonomically, there are some shortcomings, such as the lack of illumination for the window switches, inconvenient gearshift operation, and the steering wheel buttons being somewhat unintuitive. On the software side, it runs the Atlas OS system but lacks support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as native Google Maps or Waze support. However, it comes with pre-installed Here Maps, which provides real-time traffic information and points of interest

Driving Experience

The 1.5L turbocharged engine offers sufficient mid-range torque, making daily driving effortless. The acceleration is brisk, and once the turbo kicks in, the power delivery is smooth. The three-cylinder engine is somewhat noisy during startup and idling. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission shifts smoothly, though the manual mode may take some getting used to. Noise insulation is generally good, though tire noise from the Goodyear tires is noticeable at highway speeds. The suspension is tuned for Malaysian roads, effectively absorbing bumps and providing a comfortable ride, but there is noticeable body roll when cornering. The electric power steering is precise but lacks feedback, with the steering effort adjustable depending on the driving mode. However, the transmission calibration could still be improved, as there is a slight delay in throttle response.
