AI For Nowcasting Pilot Project

The Artificial Intelligence for Nowcasting Pilot Project (AINPP), envisioned as a WMO WIPPS pilot project, emerges in a critical era where high-impact weather events are increasingly affecting socio-economic developments worldwide. These events present significant challenges, especially in developing countries of the tropics, due to the inherent low predictability of convective storms, limitations in weather forecasting capabilities and resource constraints.





Pilot Project MMIFA

The WMO Integrated Processing and Prediction System (WIPPS) evolved from the Global Data-processing and Forecasting System (GDPFS) is an international mechanism that coordinates Member capacities to generate meteorological analyses and forecasts, and to make the data products operationally available to all Members. During the GDPFS Symposium in August 2022 in Geneva, one of the important recommendations regarding the “Coordination mechanism among the World Meteorological Centres (WMCs)” is about the visualization of products from WMCs in uniform graphical presentation. The recommendation is expected to benefit forecasters in the NMHSs and users with a one-stop-shop portal on visualizing and comparing NWP data products from different RSMCs of global NWP. These will facilitate forecasters to understand and assess the performance of the data products in short-range to medium-range forecasts and high-impact weather processes.

A network application platform that supports routine weather and disaster weather warning services in developing and underdeveloped countries or regions。





Severe weather forecasting programme(SWFP)-SWFP-SAO

A product network platform developed to support the WMO SWFP for Southeast Asia and Oceania, delivering route and disaster weather warning services for developing and least developed countries/regions.





Hangzhou-RDP

A network application platform that supports routine weather and disaster weather warning services in developing and underdeveloped countries or regions。





Subseasonal-to-Seasonal Prediction Project

The World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Prediction Project (S2S) was launched in November 2013, with the primary goals of improving forecast skill and understanding the dynamics and climate drivers on the sub-seasonal to seasonal timescale (from 2 weeks to a season). The S2S project has a special emphasis on high-impact weather events, developing coordination among operational.
