Wouldnt mind putting on some weight quickly.

Managed to pick up 4kg of mass gainer for a little over $50 from that GNC half price sale the other day, so for that price figured I'd give it a go. Seems to have a good protein content/ratio when compared to others. Used to make my own mix with powdered oats but I didn't go through it fast enough and it's now well past use by date. Keen to see how it goes once I finish my current cut.

User #709416505posts

Killabees

Whirlpool Enthusiast

reference: whrl.pl/RexgGi

posted 2016-Jan-22, 10:29 pm AEST

ref: whrl.pl/RexgGi

posted 2016-Jan-22, 10:29 pm AEST

I've lost weight and am now relatively toned everywhere except my stomach, but now want to bulk. Protein will make you less likely to overeat excessively but having said that carbohydrates will (like protein) assist in recovery and glycogen replenishment (which protein won't do).

Carbohydrates can be your best friend if you're lifting weights but at the same time it really comes down to the amount of food you want to overeat on in general. A more minor surplus will likely lead to good muscle gain without too much fat storage but excess anything can (and often will) be stored as fat (and that includes protein it's just that itself and carbohydrates are less likely too versus dietary fat).

Mind you, protein intake doesn't have to be enormous either but still keeping it relatively high is a good idea for muscle protein synthesis and fullness in conjunction with a mix of fats and carbohydrates.

Killabees writes...

I'm worried the extra carbs in it will be stored as fat.

As above, extra anything will be stored as fat so just be mindful in that regard. Carbohydrates keep some people fuller for longer (generally not the processed/refined stuff) and others do better with lower relative carbohydrates and higher fat intakes (while keeping protein high(er). However, if you don't overconsume carbohydrates too much this option is better for two reasons and one is minimising fat gain and the other is restoring muscle glycogen which essentially leads to greater lifts with regards to volume, progression on the barbell or both.

User #255473182posts

Hemogoblin

Forum Regular

reference: whrl.pl/RexkPn

posted 2016-Jan-24, 7:27 pm AEST

ref: whrl.pl/RexkPn

posted 2016-Jan-24, 7:27 pm AEST

Carbs won't make ANYONE fat. Both them and venom protein have very good protein products at excellent prices. Your choice will depend on what flavours you like (the new BN salted caramel is stupidly delicious) but I've been shopping with BN for a solid 2 years now. Bulk Nutrients even has a store rep who comments on this thread sometimes.

Their other supps are also very good. Lots of people have different preferences in terms of their pre-workout supps but the BN ones are as good as any, definitely worth a try.

User #282493497posts

Kcboiye

Forum Regular

reference: whrl.pl/RexkWE

posted 2016-Jan-24, 7:56 pm AEST

ref: whrl.pl/RexkWE

posted 2016-Jan-24, 7:56 pm AEST

ah awesome :) thanks for the info

User #255473182posts

Hemogoblin

Forum Regular

reference: whrl.pl/Rexk9q

posted 2016-Jan-24, 9:03 pm AEST

ref: whrl.pl/Rexk9q

posted 2016-Jan-24, 9:03 pm AEST

Kcboiye writes...

what are peoples thoughts of Bulk Nutrient supplements?

Great prices and local so all good.
