About Us







An integrated air-based, space-based and ground-based meteorological observation system has been established with nine FENGYUN meteorological satellites in orbit, providing data products and services to 129 countries and regions.

China’s Swarm Drones Complete First Full-process Three-Dimensional Observation of Typhoon Passage

As Typhoon Noul approached, starting on 24 July, the Special Meteorological Support Technology Research Centre of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS) of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), joined hands with Shenzhen National Climate Observatory (Shenzhen Astronomical Observatory) to conduct China's first observation experiment using swarm drones for high-frequency, multi-dimensional measurements throughout the typhoon landfall process.



FENGYUN meteorological satellites are closely monitoring a newly formed tropical depression in the South China Sea

At 11:00 on July 1, FY-4B satellite monitoring showed that the maximum wind speed near the center of the tropical depression was 15 m/s, with a central minimum pressure of 1005 hPa.



New Generation Weather Radar Operational Software Pilot Operation Launched in Northern China

Since June 25, the CMA has initiated the pilot operation of Version 3.1 of the new weather radar operational software (ROSE 3.1) across 28 radars in multiple northern provinces of China.

China's efforts to develop Fengyun meteorological satellites have made major strides over the past 50 years, with the polar and geostationary meteorological satellite series achieving continuously stable operation to persistently provide data and product services globally.

By the end of 2022, a nationwide ground-based observation network consisting of 10,963 observation stations was established.

Air-based

By the end of 2022, China had a total of 120 upper-air meteorological observation stations, as well as more than 100 wind profile radars and more than 900 GNSS/MET observation instruments.

Sea-based

By the end of 2022, China had built a network of more than five hundred marine observation stations consisting of island stations, offshore platform stations and offshore buoy stations.

Quality Management






Quality Management

The meteorological observation quality management system, as one of the main internationally prescribed quality management and assurance measurement systems, plays a guiding and standardizing role in the implementation of meteorological observation in China. At present, the quality management system proposed by CMA, which covers the whole process of observation operations, has received ISO9001 certification.
