International Training Program on Meteorological Early Warning for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for BRlCS Countries held in Beijing

On September 10, International Training Program on Meteorological Early Warning for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for BRlCS Countries (hereinafter referred to as the "Workshop") held in Beijing. Experts in management and technical fields from meteorological, ecological environment, agriculture, and rural affairs departments of countries including Ethiopia, Malaysia, Egypt, Laos, and Cuba participated.

Over the next two weeks, the Workshop will focus on China's practical cases in addressing climate change, early warning, and disaster prevention and mitigation. Through classroom lectures, visits, case studies, and on-site training, 32 participants will engage in exchanges and discussions to jointly enhance early warning and meteorological disaster risk response capabilities.

"Malaysia is located in a tropical region and is susceptible to monsoons, floods, and severe weather events. Strengthening the construction of early warning systems is crucial for protecting our communities. And the theme of this Workshop highly aligns with Malaysia’s commitment to reducing disaster risks and enhancing climate change adaptability," said Loh Wing Son, a lecturer at UniversitiTunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia. He looks forward to drawing inspiration from  China’s experience in climate change adaptation and early warning to build a safer and more sustainable future.

Participants will also visit meteorological departments in Urumqi and Shihezi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to learn about local practices and experiences in agricultural meteorological services.

The Workshop is implemented by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) Training Centre (CMA International Cooperation and Training Centre).
