Data Aggregation

Data Aggregation

The Data Aggregation feature allows a parent/child relationship to be established between systems. Child systems nominate the parent system which will have the aggregated or summed result of all its children.

Aggregation is available for solar (v1/v2), consumption (v3/v4) and extended data parameters (v7-v12).


Configuration

The following must be setup for system aggregation -



Create one or more child systems - e.g. Child 2kW and Child 3kW



Create a parent system - e.g. Parent 5kW




To setup system aggregation, edit each child system and assign it a parent -



Login and open the System Editor



Goto the Data Aggregation section



Select the parent system from the Parent System dropdown




Any live data uploads to any child systems will now aggregate to its designated parent system.


Note

Data may still be uploaded directly to the parent system, however it will be overwritten when child system data is received and aggregated to the parent. Use the Aggregation Mode settings to control which data streams are aggregated from child to parent.




Aggregation Mode

The aggregation mode setting is available for both parent and child systems. It controls which data streams (solar, consumption or extended) a parent system may receive from child systems, and which data a child may send to the parent.


Parent Aggregation Mode

By default the parent combines the following of all child systems -



Energy Generated (v1)



Power Generated (v2)



Energy Consumed (v3)



Power Consumed (v4)



Extended Data (v7-v12)




Data uploaded directly to the parent will be overwritten by data aggregated from the children systems.

The parent system may be configured to only aggregate generation (v1/v2), consumption (v3/v4) or extended (v7-12) from child systems.

This allows non-aggregated data to be uploaded directly to the parent via the API or Auto Uploader without being overwritten by the aggregation.

The following is a sample scenario where this configuration may be used -



Parent Generation (e.g. Solar)



Child 1 Consumption (e.g. Hot Water)



Child 2 Consumption (e.g. House Consumption)




For the above, set the aggregation mode to Consumption and generation data uploaded to the parent will be unaffected.

To setup the aggregation mode for the parent -



Edit the Parent system



Goto the Advanced Settings section



Select the Aggregation Mode



All - Aggregate solar, consumption and extended data from children



Solar - Only aggregate generation data from children



Consumption - Only aggregate consumption data from children



Extended - Only aggregate extended data from children









Child Aggregation Mode

The aggregation mode can also be set on individual child systems. This controls which children are allowed to aggregate data to the parent.



All - Send solar, consumption and extended data from the child to the parent



Solar - Only send solar data from the child to the parent



Consumption - Only send consumption data from the child to the parent



Extended - Only send extended data from the child to the parent




When setting the child aggregation mode to Solar or Consumption, the parent’s own aggregation mode must be set to All.

The parent aggregation mode will override any child setting, i.e. when the parent aggregation mode is set to Solar, all children will effectively be set to Solar as well.

The table below shows the aggregation behaviour for solar, consumption and extended data for all possible parent/child Aggregation Mode combinations.

Note

Extended data is always aggregated when any child system enables the Parent Aggregation option for one or more of its extended parameters.





Extended Data Aggregation

Each extended data parameter on a child may be aggregated to overwrite the parent extended data. When a child enables the Parent Aggregation setting on an extended parameter, its value is automatically aggregated to the same extended parameter on the parent.


Configuration

Extended data aggregation is setup on the child system under the Extended Data section. It must be setup individually for each extended parameter.

Select one of the following Parent Aggregation options -



None - Disable aggregation for this parameter.



Add - The parameter value will be added to the parent.



Subtract - The parameter value will be subtracted from the parent.









Subtraction

Consider the following parent setup with three children.



Child A - v7 Parent Aggregation = Add



Child B - v7 Parent Aggregation = Subtract



Child C - v7 Parent Aggregation = Add




The aggregated result of v7 on the parent is (A - B + C). If the value of B is greater than A and C combined then the result will be negative.

A parent with a single child using the Subtract option will negate all values when saved to the parent.




Other Features


Aggregate Tariffs

This parent option when enabled will sum the daily tariff debit / credit balances of all children and overwrite the parent balance. This feature may be useful if each child system is using different Tariff Plan setting, e.g. a controlled load hot water system.



Use Temperature

This parent option will copy the temperature data from the selected child system.



Use Voltage

This parent option will copy the voltage data from the selected child system.



Restrictions and Limitations



A parent system can have a maximum of 8 child systems



A parent system cannot assign a grand parent system



Aggregation only occurs when new data is uploaded



Existing data uploaded prior to a parent/child relationship link is not aggregated



The parent aggregation mode All will ignore direct uploads to the parent
