Alerts

Alerts

Alerts are email notifications triggered by a certain event which has affected one of the systems you own.

They are useful in detecting potential system problems which may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

All alerts are sent to the account email address. An alternative alert email can be configured to deliver alerts on the Account Settings page.

The Notification API can be used to forward a notification message to an external URL when any of the alerts are triggered. This allows an action to be performed on external systems such as mobile app push notifications or to control devices.


System Alerts

The following types of system alerts are available -



Idle System Alert



Low Output Alert

Low Voltage Alert




Alerts are available for both API uploaders and systems using the Auto Uploader for live data.

System alerts are managed individually for each system, the alert settings are available in the system editor



Login and open the System Editor



Go down to the Live Settings section





Idle System Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the system has failed to send an update within the specified amount of time.

Idle alerts are useful in detecting problems with uploading devices and/or the system itself has shutdown and requires further investigation.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Select 15 Minutes from the Idle System Alert dropdown

Note

For solar only systems, this alert is automatically disabled after sundown to prevent alerts being fired. However, in the event that the system fails to send an update the next morning, an idle alert will be sent after 18 hours of no activity.


For solar and consumption, this alert is always active



Low Output Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the system power generation drops below the specified power amount.

Low output alerts are useful in detecting generation performance issues or where consumption will prevent an idle alert from firing although generation has stopped.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Enter the value in watts and select 15 Minutes from the Low Output Alert dropdown



Optionally, add a From and To time in which the alert is active.

High Usage Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the system power consumption exceeds the specified power amount.

High usage alerts are useful in detecting excessive consumption.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Enter the value in watts and select 15 Minutes from the High Usage Alert dropdown



Optionally, add a From and To time in which the alert is active.

Performance Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the system energy generation underperforms another system by a given percentage.

Performance alerts can detect if a system is underperforming due to hardware issues.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Select the percentage amount to trigger the alert from the dropdown.



Enter the System Id to compare your live data against.



Optionally, add a From time in which the alert is active.

Standby Cost Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the cost of standby (always-on) power consumption exceeds the specified amount in local currency.

The cost of standby is calculated using the system tariff and Time of Use (TOU) information if available.

Standby cost alerts are useful in detecting household appliances which have been left on accidentally.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Enter the cost amount to trigger the alert when the amount is exceeded.

High Net Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the calculated net power, generation (v2) minus consumption (v4), exceeds the specified power amount.

High net alerts are useful for detecting excess generation which should be consumed instead of exported at a low feed in tariff. Upon a high net alert trigger, consumption may be increased to use excess generation.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Enter the value in watts and select 15 Minutes from the High Net Alert dropdown



Optionally, add a From and To time in which the alert is active.



Save your system details




Negative values can be used to indicate import. Positive values indicate export.

For example, if the value -200 is entered, an alert will be sent when the system starts importing less than 200W.

A value of 500 will trigger an alert when the amount exported exceeds 500W.



Low Net Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the calculated net power, generation (v2) minus consumption (v4), falls below the specified power amount.

Low net alerts are useful for detecting excess import. Upon a low net alert trigger, consumption should be reduced if possible.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Enter the value in watts and select 15 Minutes from the Low Net Alert dropdown



Optionally, add a From and To time in which the alert is active.



Save your system details




Negative values can be used to indicate import. Positive values indicate export.

For example, if the value -500 is entered, an alert will be sent when the system starts importing more than 500W.

A value of 200 will trigger an alert when the amount exported falls below 200W.



High Voltage Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the voltage (v6) value exceeds the specified amount.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Enter the value in volts and select 15 Minutes from the High Voltage Alert dropdown



Optionally, add a From and To time in which the alert is active.

Low Voltage Alert

This alert is sent to the system owner when the voltage (v6) value falls below the specified amount.

Enable this alert via the system editor -



Enter the value in volts and select 15 Minutes from the Low Voltage Alert dropdown



Optionally, add a From and To time in which the alert is active.

Restrictions and Limitations



Only activity within the last two days will be monitored, i.e. retrospective loads will be ignored.



Idle alerts are only sent for system activity between 8AM and 5PM local time.



No idle alert is sent when system output is -



less than 2.5% of system capacity after 2:00PM



less than 2.0% of system capacity after 2:30PM



less than 1.0% of system capacity after 3:00PM






High Usage Alerts: Power usage must exceed the specified amount for the entire period, i.e. power spikes will be ignored.



Low Output Alerts: Power output must be below the specified amount for the entire period.



The alert is always active when the From and To times are blank.



Standby cost alerts are only sent when there is at least 30 minutes worth of data.

There are three types of account alerts available -

Account alerts are managed for individual user accounts, the alert settings are available on the Settings page



Login



Click on Settings



Go down to the Alert Settings section





Messaging Alert

An alert will be sent when another user sends a message to one of the systems which you own.



Follow Alert

An alert will be sent when another user adds one of your systems to their favourites list.



Team Join Alert

An alert will be sent when a user joins a team which you have created.




Extended Data Alerts

Extended data alerts are triggered when the configured low and/or high limits for the parameter is reached or exceeded. See the Extended Data section on configuration details.

The alerting behaviour will vary depending on the combination of low, high and alert type configuration used.

The following figures illustrate when alerts, indicated by the red circles, are fired.


On Both

This alert will trigger when either the high or low value is exceeded. Both a low and high value must be configured.



On Low - Without High

Alerts will trigger when the low value is reached. The alert state is reset and is available for re-triggering after the low value condition is no longer met. Only a low value is configured, the high value is left blank.



On Low - With High

Alerts will trigger when the low value is reached. The alert state is reset and is available for re-triggering after the high value is reached. Both a low and high value must be configured.



On High - Without Low

Alerts will trigger when the high value is reached. The alert state is reset and is available for re-triggering after the high value condition is no longer met. Only a high value is configured, the low value is left blank.



On High - With Low

Alerts will trigger when the high value is reached. The alert state is reset and is available for re-triggering after the low value is reached. Both a low and high value must be configured.



Restrictions and Limitations



The maximum rate of Extended data alerts is once every hour per extended parameter. If an alert event occurs within the same hour the alert will be released after 1 hour has passed.



The maximum alert value is 1,000,000 and minimum alert value is -1,000,000







Custom Alerting

The subject and message content of an alert may be customised to meet various alerting requirements e.g. Earth Fault Alarms in AS/NZS 5033:2012. This functionality may be used by a Managed Systems account to update the alert messages sent to customer systems.

The alert message is changed via the system editor -



Login and open the System Editor



Click on the Edit link next to the alert configuration to popup the alert editor



The default alert subject and body is shown.



Enter the custom message using the placeholders.



Click Save to update the alert and close the dialogue.





Placeholders

Each alert makes available a number of placeholders such as the system name and other relevant values that can be inserted into the subject or message body.



Low Output Alert

The following placeholders are available for the Low Output Alert



[system_name] - The name of the system



[limit] - The low power limit value configured for this system in watts



[average] - The average power value the system is producing in watts



[duration] - The number of minutes the system has been below the limit



[time] - The time alert event occurred



[url] - The link back to the live output for the system






High Usage Alert

The following placeholders are available for the High Usage Alert



[system_name] - The name of the system



[limit] - The high power limit value configured for this system in watts



[average] - The average power value the system is producing in watts



[duration] - The number of minutes the system has been above the limit



[time] - The time alert event occurred



[url] - The link back to the live output for the system






Standby Cost Alert

The following placeholders are available for the Standby Cost Alert



[system_name] - The name of the system



[limit] - The standby cost limit value in local currency



[power] - The standby power in watts



[energy] - The standy energy consumed in kWh



[url] - The link back to the live output for the system






Extended Data Alert

The following placeholders are available for the Extended Data Alert v7 to v12



[system_name] - The name of the system



[system_id] - The numeric system id



[url] - The link back to the live output for the system



[value] - The value of the parameter when the alert was triggered



[low] - The low limit value configured



[high] - The high limit value configured



[label] - The extended data label configured



[unit] - The extended data unit configured



[m1] - The last text message sent as parameter m1 via Add Status API






Restrictions and Limitations



HTML formatting is not supported in the message body. Messages are emailed in plain text.
